There are many women and men who undergo Chicago Botox treatment to help and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, before you decide to go forward with the procedure, it is a good idea to learn all you can, so you know what to expect. Helpful information about how to prepare for the procedure, as well as what to expect during and after can be found here.

Preparation for Botox Injections

Before the injections are administered, your doctor will want to know if you have received any type of botulinum toxin injections in the previous four months. For anyone taking blood thinners, they may also need to stop the medication several days ahead of time in order to reduce the risk of bruising or bleeding. Your doctor will also likely ask if you are taking any type of allergy medication, sleeping aid or muscle relaxants.

While the majority of patients will be able to tolerate the discomfort caused by the injection well, you may want the doctor to numb the injection site ahead of time. There are a number of options to choose from including:

* Cold Spray: A cold blast of air is directed toward your skin for a period of about 10 seconds. The numbness only lasts for a few seconds.
* Cream: You can opt to have a prescription cream applied to the face about 60 minutes before the procedure.
* Injections: You can have a numbing medication injected into the skin.

During the Botox Procedure

During the procedure, your doctor will use a very thin needle for the injection of the botulinum toxin into your skin or the muscles. The total number of injections that are needed will be dependent on a number of different factors, which include the extent of the face area that is being treated. In most cases, the Botox injections will be completed in the doctor’s office.

After the Botox Injections

You can expect to resume your normal, day to day activities directly after the procedure has been completed. However, it is important that you do not massage or rub the areas that were treated, since this can cause the toxin to move to a different area on your face.

When you are fully informed about what to expect with Botox injections, you can feel confident that this is, in fact, a procedure you want to have completed.
