Monte Verde
Everyone knows that Costa Rica’s got fabulous beaches. In fact, it sits on two bodies of water, the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. However, Costa Rica isn’t all beach. It’s got some of the most spectacular, rich and bio-diverse mountain ranges in the world. Lush is the perfect word to describe Monte Verde (verde means green in Spanish), so you should expect moisture, rain and plenty of wildlife.
Puerto Viejo
Of all the beaches in Costa, this is the most famous. It’s nestled on the Caribbean Sea and is sort of a Mecca for backpackers, surfers, musicians, artisans and other nomadic, carefree travelers. You’ll find there are plenty of opportunities for water sports and jungle trekking or lounging around in a hammock.
San Jose
The nation’s capital is not the first place you might think of when contemplating Costa Rica adventure travel. However, some of the greatest travel adventures you’ll ever have will take place in cities. In San Jose, you’ve got the adventure of the night life, which includes bars and live music and even casinos. Just be sure to stick to the more tourist-friendly neighborhoods when roaming the city.
