A gasket is a mechanical surface that is placed between two objects that work against each other (e.g. Mating Surfaces), reducing friction. There are many different types of gaskets, but one of the most common types is the neoprene gasket.

Why Neoprene

Neoprene is a kind of synthetic rubber that exhibits very good chemical stability. Additionally, neoprene is known for its ability to maintain flexibility even when exposed to extreme temperatures. Furthermore, these unique characteristics make neoprene particularly resistant to degradation. Neoprene is also far more fire resistant than other synthetic rubbers, with a burn point around 500 Fahrenheit.

Neoprene Gaskets are used in a variety of applications and industries, including:

-The Petrochemical Industry, in which corrosion resistance is at a premium
-Steel Mills, due to their heat resistant properties
-Oil and Gas, due to their ability to withstand harsh environments
-Power and Utility
-Compressors, because of their corrosion resistance and high burning point

Variations
There are many different variations of the neoprene gasket. Each kind is best suited for specific kinds of environments.

Style O725: Resistant to Oil and Ozone, often used in flange applications

Style 0734: Very weather resistant, which is why there often used in the oil and gas industry.

Style R-451: Inert nitrogen properties make them extremely resistant to moisture, dirt and air. They are also shock absorbent.

Style 0741: Very Oil Resistant

What truly makes neoprene gaskets so effective are their versatility. They work well for a variety of applications, and have to be replaced far less than gaskets made from other materials. If a business is serious about protecting their tools and parts from the effects of wear, they will consider the use of neoprene gaskets.
