Tia Chi is a very ancient form of both self-defense as well as health. In modern Tia Chi classes the original poses, postures and movements are incorporated into the class to help with balance, physical health as well as mental health. It is often considered to be very similar to meditation and actually uses some of the elements of mediation to bring a true relaxation to the practice.

What Class to Take

There are different types of Tia Chi classes including those that are designed to be more slow and meditative and those that are faster with more stress on form and positioning. It is important when considering Tia Chi classes to choose a class that is taught by someone that has the training and certification to be a Tia Chi instructor.

The Basics of Tai Chi Classes

Each of the styles of Tia Chi classes will include five basic elements. These form the basis of the practice and include hand movement and forms, breathing and movement awareness, mediation, responses and self-defense.

The ultimate goal of Tia Chi classes is to teach the student to control their internal flow of energy and focus their mind. The entire exercise is fluid and gentle, focusing more on harnessing energy to create the right movement rather than doing things fast or aggressively but in the incorrect form.

There are a lot of repetitions of movement in Tia Chi classes but this is all part of the training of the body and the mind. This focus is unique and not typically found in western styles of exercise and fitness programs.

Getting Involved in Tia Chi Classes

There is no physical fitness requirement to begin Tia Chi classes, which makes it a great match for anyone at any age. The instructor will provide different levels of the exercise for all class members to adjust their training routine. Keep in mind this is designed to be a non-competitive, non-combat activity that is designed to be self- paced.

Once you get started with Tia Chi classes you can practice the movements on your own. This is wonderful activity for the entire family and is very beneficial as a lifelong practice for both physical health as well as mental well-being.
