Having a baby is one of the most remarkable things you will ever do in your life. Yet, it isn’t always an easy nine months. Preparing your body and your mind for the pregnancy is very important. Doing so will help you to relax. It will help you and the baby to have the best chance of being healthy and thriving. Knowing what to expect is important, but you also need to realize every person goes through different changes.
Physical Changes
Morning sickness is a harsh reality of pregnancy for most women. This doesn’t mean you only feel nauseated in the morning though. It can occur any time of the day or night. Certain smells or tastes you used to like can now turn your stomach. This should pass after a few months, but do your best to reduce it by eating crackers and avoiding what you know is going to trigger queasy feelings.
You may notice your breasts are sore in the early months, but then the sensitivity goes away. In the last month, they may start to hurt again as you get your milk for the baby. Your belly is going to start to grow as the baby is developing. By the time the baby is born, it may be hard to bend or to get up easily. You may find it is harder to get comfortable to sleep or to get out of bed.
Emotional Changes
Hormones rage throughout the time you have a baby growing inside of you. This can cause you to become emotional over the simplest of things. Don’t let it get the best of you at work or with those you care about. Try to get enough rest and to talk about your feelings. You may be scared of being a good mom. You may be worried about finances or how you look to your partner as your body changes.
Many women say they become forgetful at times, and they tend to laugh it off. This, too, could be due to changes in your hormones. Don’t worry if you aren’t excited all the time about the impending birth of your child. It is natural to think about your job and other responsibilities but create a logical plan for how you will make it all fit together.
Lifestyle Habits
It is important to eliminate poor lifestyle habits if you are going to be pregnant. Eating healthy is important for you and for the baby. Both of you will need vitamins and nutrients from food to do well. Avoid smoking or consuming alcohol as they can harm the baby. If you take medications, your doctor may change them or ask you to stop taking them if you plan to become pregnant. Some women who are overweight are encouraged by their doctor to shed pounds before trying to have a baby to improve overall health. Do all you can to be comfortable and healthy. It will all be worth it when you hold that bundle of joy!
