The Ford Explorer started the SUV craze. After all these years, it is still a serious contender. The Explorer utilizes premium materials for the interior. The XL, XLY, and Limited trims are front wheel drive as a standard but are available with all-wheel drive as an option. The Sport and Platinum trims are all-wheel drive as a matter of course. Every Explorer, regardless of trim, has a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Explorer is wide and long. These factors are what is important for interior space and ride comfort. The driver and front passenger seats are very comfortable, with bolsters to keep everyone stable on long road trips.
The third-row seats fold down and tuck out of the way. With the middle row and the back row seats stowed, there is a whopping 81 Cubic feet of cargo space, all lined with durable carpeting. Even with the second-row seats in use, there are 21 cubic feet of storage space available.
