Slipping and falling are an increasing cause of work-related injuries. Most of these accidents occur where there are wet surfaces even though the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations require all floors to be maintained.

The accidents also result in a lot of money in worker’s compensation claims and lawsuits. Thus, facilities where spills are common should keep their workspace safe and clean by maintaining the floors. A main element is to find the perfect absorbent pads.

Choose the Right Product

Companies have different requirements to keep their floors safe. Some facilities may use clay pellets or cardboard and do not know that mats and absorbent pads exist. Having an absorbent pad will increase work safety because they absorb a vast amount of liquid, even oils, and are easy to clean up.

Mat Rolls and Pads

Absorbent rolls and pads are used to cover wet floors, soak in leaks and drips as well as clean the spills. Mats are usually made of polypropylene or cellulose. Either can retain liquid without making more of a mess like carboard and clay pellets. Mats made of polypropylene are durable and are ideal for absorbing fuels, water, oil, oxidizers and corrosives. Mats made of cellulose aren’t as strong but can sometimes absorb more liquids. It is best used for noncorrosive and non-oxidizing chemicals. Both of these materials, however, contain recycled items which minimizes the impact on the environment.

Socks

Socks can contain and absorb spills. They have a polypropylene tear-resistant skin retaining liquids even when it is saturated. This will reduce the time in cleaning up and absorbing liquid. Socks can also be placed before any spills occur making it a safe work environment for your employees.
