You’ve found an incredible resort, booked your rooms, picked dates, and saved up for souvenirs. All that’s left is to travel with your children to the family resort in San Diego. If your children are younger, this will likely be the most challenging part of your vacation. Long car rides or waiting around in the airport are not conducive to avoiding meltdowns. Here are a couple of things you can do to make traveling easier for yourself and your little ones.
Leave Early and Give Yourself Plenty of Time
You’ll need to be on time for your flight or to check in to your resort, and it’s far better to be early than late. Traveling can be stressful for everyone, and your kid will find it especially difficult the younger they are. Give yourself plenty of time to handle multiple bathroom breaks and tantrums.
Consider Relaxing Screen Time Rules
A vacation isn’t a total departure from rules, but it is a good time to relax on certain ones like bedtime and screen time. Letting your kids watch their tablet with headphones will keep them occupied during long flights and car rides, which helps avoid boredom meltdowns. You also won’t hear “Are we there yet?” quite as much.
Bring Plenty of Snacks
Packing a few tried and trusted snacks for your kids is a must. You never know when you’re traveling if you’ll be able to find a restaurant or food your kids will like, and hungry children are not pleasant to be around. Having your own snacks also makes it easier to avoid loading up on sugary gas station snacks.
