Compared to other types of copper, copper wire and tubing have a good copper scrap price. In fact, at the time of this writing, the price was approximately $2.77 per pound. Copper wire and tubing is easy to find if you know the best places to look. So, where exactly are the best places to look? Start with anything with a power cord. Invest in a pair of wire cutters or heavy-duty scissors, and start cutting power cords off old electronics. Snip the plug off the end, and then strip the insulation off the copper. Voila! You have copper wire. Another excellent place to look is the power cords of old appliances. Refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, ovens, washers and dryers all typically have much thicker power cords than smaller electronics and appliances. Finding these will increase the weight of your copper wire drastically. Finally, look inside desktops, computers, laptops, and DVD players. These not only have power cords, but they also have insulated copper wires throughout. Dismantle them carefully and remove those interior wires. You may be thinking at this point, that you do not have a lot of old appliances, computers, and TVs laying around. So, how are you going to find all this wire? Spend a Saturday at a local junkyard. You will find all the copper wire you can handle. With today’s copper scrap price at the current level, it is not unrealistic to think you could make a thousand dollars or more scrapping copper.

Like other commodities, the copper scrap price fluctuates regularly. Keep an eye on the price for several weeks. Save your copper scrap until it reaches a high point before you take it to the recycling center. You will earn more money this way!
