Cincinnati gutters and downspouts, when installed correctly by professionals will collect the water that pours off a roof during a rain and lead it away from the house. The two basic materials used in the manufacture of gutters are PVC and metal. Metal gutters can be made from galvanized steel, stainless steel, copper and aluminum with aluminum being by far the most popular. All gutter materials have their own unique pros and cons.

Aluminum gutters are produced in two grades, primary and secondary. Secondary aluminum gutters are produced exclusively from recycled materials; the material is a lighter gauge and often has fissures which lead to future problems. Doubtless secondary gutters are more environmentally sensitive. Primary Cincinnati gutters are produced from virgin material and as such they do not contain any areas for future concern as they are thicker and contain no impurities.

Aluminum gutters can be had in a variety of sizes, the size is determined by the roof area which will drain into the gutter. Regardless of the size, aluminum gutters do not rust and the material is available in a wide variety of colors to match the exterior décor of the house. The one potential downside of aluminum gutters, whether made from secondary or primary material is its impact strength. The material can easily be bent if a tree branch should break off and strike the gutter, even a ladder propped up on the gutter can deform it.

Stainless steel and galvanized steel gutters are very rugged and extremely durable. Galvanized steel gutters will eventually rust out but with care can last for many years; stainless steel on the other hand will never rust out and can be considered virtually indestructible. Stainless steel is considerably more expensive than its galvanized counterpart but many people consider the additional cost to be money well spent. Stainless steel gutters are usually installed and left in their natural surface finish whereas galvanized gutters need frequent painting as part of the maintenance.

The ultimate metal in the eyes of many homeowners is copper. Copper gutters are often seen on more expensive properties. Copper gutters are very costly and they are only available in their natural color which is one of the plus points, over time the gutters will take on a soft green patina.
