If you’re looking to start your own construction company, or you are looking to expand your existing construction company, one of the biggest expenditures you’ll make is construction equipment. Whether it’s standard construction or heavy construction equipment, this type of equipment can represent a significant investment and in many cases, expansion can be prohibited by the amount of cost that this type of equipment comes with.

A good way to offset the cost of this equipment is to purchase used as opposed to new equipment. However, some business owners have questions as to where to find the best quality used equipment.

Look at Auctions

Fortunately, there are many opportunities to purchase used construction equipment at various auctions. These types of auctions happen much more frequently than most people would imagine, and it’s a great place to get quality used equipment for a reasonable price. If you’re looking to expand your construction business, looking for the various auctions in and around your location is an excellent way to outfit your construction company in an affordable manner.

Check Equipment Dealers

Another option for used equipment is to look for dealers that sell new construction equipment. In many cases, the dealers will have a wide selection of used equipment as well. When it comes to heavy equipment such as land movers, backhoes, bulldozers, cranes and other equipment, these dealers offer more benefits than purchasing it at auction.

In most cases, you will get to try out the equipment before purchasing. This is not something that isn’t typically allowable with auctions. While the price may be a bit higher purchasing used equipment in this manner, you will often find a better quality of equipment and in some cases you can even find equipment with existing warranties.

Most businesses like to purchase new construction equipment, but unfortunately, this method can prove to be too costly for most small to medium-size construction companies. By choosing the option of purchasing used, you’re still likely to get a good quality piece of equipment with many years of usefulness left in it. In addition, you can end up saving a significant amount of money in the process.
