Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably heard of CrossFit in St. Augustine area and are wondering if you should give it a try. You’ve also probably done your research and come to the conclusion that there are advocates and naysayers on both sides of the fence. Therefore, it can be confusing to know who to believe or where the answer is though it will probably be a little bit of both.
What It Is
In essence, it is a program that enhances all part of the body and is considered total-body fitness. It includes agility, power, strength, cardio and flexibility and can be designed for almost any person. Because it is meant to be varied, no two workouts are the same. While you can do it on your own, finding videos online, it is best to use certified instructors so that you remain safe during the workout.
Trainer
The workout is led by someone certified, meaning they know how to instruct you properly. You’ll learn proper form and techniques, and will also benefit from personalization. You will likely talk about your goals and have an assessment of your physical limitations and needs. While you will pay for the CrossFit membership, the trainer should come included.
Total Fitness
Most people, even those that regularly workout, have no idea what total fitness means. Many people enjoy cardio and dislike weight training or flexibility training because it is slower or more difficult. However, all types of exercise are required to keep your body as fit as possible and to reduce the risk of becoming “skinny-fat,” which is where you are at a healthy weight, but still have fatty deposits on the upper arms, thighs and other areas.
Team
You can quickly become part of a team because CrossFitters will typically attend the same classes each time. You’ll get to know those in the group and they will become more than just sweaty faces. You can strengthen your personal ties, which can help you stay with the program. Remember, no program will work if you don’t show up consistently.
Look Good
You will notice results quickly if you stick with the workout program, meaning you will start looking better sooner. However, you’ll also begin to notice that you have more strength and energy.
