A clutch plate is an important part of a clutch in a transmission car. When you take your foot off the pedal, the pressure plates are pushed against the disc and after words the clutch’s flywheel. This helps the engine and transmission system to spin at the same speeds, keeping power flowing between the two.

Location
The clutch plate is located bolted onto the car’s flywheel at the back of the engine. It is round metal plate with friction textile attached to the outside.

Repair
If you notice your clutch or clutch plate need some repair, contact the many friction plate manufacturers in your area.  If you were to take your car to a professional or a garage specializing in clutch repair, the cost could reach from a few hundred to over one thousand dollars. Labor cost is the main reason for this high repair bill, so if you are able to do the fix on your own, do so.

If the clutch plate needs replacing, typically the clutch disc would need to be replaced as well. While driving, keep your eye out for any shaking or shuddering while driving. Also, any unusual noises could be an indicator that the clutch plate and surrounding parts are on its last legs.

Choosing the Right Clutch Friction Plate
If you are in the market for a clutch plate repair, make sure you choose the correct model. Plates are different depending on the car. The cost of the friction plate is typically between one hundred to a few hundred dollars. Make sure you have the proper sealants and gaskets to go along with the repair as well.

During installation, make sure you follow proper install procedure and put the part in place correctly. If installed wrong, it could mess with the whole clutch system and additional repairs would need to be made.
