Nothing looks better in the home than a room with a fresh coat of paint. For those who want to tuck into their own decorating & painting in Peachtree City there are a few tips and tricks that can help you get a professional looking finished product.
Get it together:
The job will go better and you will enjoy doing it more if you are organized right from the start. Gather up everything that you will need and think you’ll need for the job. Pull together the brushes, roller, paint, patching compound, sandpaper, screwdrivers, hammer etc. Think the job through, spread out your drop cloth and organize all your tools and material.
Take your time:
Don’t rush the job or it will show it. Take the first day to prepare the room; pull all the furniture to the middle of the room, patch all the holes and cracks, tape around the doors, windows and electric points and remove the lighting fixtures if you can, otherwise encase them in large plastic bags.
Remove the hardware:
Although it means more work at the beginning of the job, it usually results in less work all told; remove all the hardware. Take the door handles off; remove any hinges and handles if the job entails cabinets, put all the parts that you remove and all the fasteners in individual bags, in this way you know what goes where when it is time to replace everything. This process may seem to be unnecessary but unless you have a very steady hand there is no doubt that there will be paint drips where you don’t want them. This is also an ideal time to clean all the hardware, especially if it is brass and may have tarnished over the years.
Get yourself ready:
You may think you can paint without a drip or any overspray from the roller; odds are you are mistaken. Put on old clothes, remove all your rings and jewellery and wear an old pair of slip-on shoes that you can easily get out of if you need to leave the room. Once you get to the ceiling, put an old shower cap over your hair and protect your eye glasses with goggles.
