Recently, the North Carolina Senate Judiciary Committee approved Senate Bill 711 to legalize medical marijuana. However, that’s just the beginning; the bill needs to pass through three more committees before it can reach the Senate floor for a vote. So, legal THC in Fuquay-Varina is not yet a reality.
Patients would need to suffer from a “debilitating medical condition” such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, HIV/AIDS, or multiple sclerosis. However, state regulators could add more qualifying conditions before and after the bill passes.
Committee members also approved an amendment to the bill reducing the number of approved dispensaries in the state from eight to just four. Currently, CBD hemp is being grown in the Fuquay-Varina area, and those farms could easily begin growing medical marijuana. That further increases the chances for legal THC in Fuquay-Varina. Due to its central location in the state, Fuquay-Varina could very well be the future location of a medical marijuana dispensary.
According to a poll conducted earlier this year, three out of four North Carolinians agree that medical marijuana should be legalized. More than half would like to see recreational marijuana legalized. If the trend continues legal THC in Fuquay-Varina, as well as the rest of the state, could become a reality.
However, as of now, possession of any type of marijuana or THC product in North Carolina remains a crime. Even if Senate Bill 711 passes, only certain health conditions could legally use medical marijuana. But, it’s a start, and legal THC could be coming to Fuquay-Varina soon.
