Whether you’re moving to a new home or simply packing up boxes to put into storage, it’s important to use the right materials for the job. The goal is to keep your items safe as they move from point A to point B. Check out three factors to consider when packing items in boxes to move them to another location.

The Amount of Packing Material Needed

If you’re packing breakable items such as into corrugated shipping boxes, you need a lot of packing material that will provide adequate cushioning as the box is moved. Alternatively, non-breakable items like books don’t require as much packing material. Even if they are dropped they’re not likely to be damaged.

The Size of the Item

Before choosing a box it’s best to consider the size of the item that will go in it. So, when you choose corrugated shipping boxes for your items, you’ll know how much space the item will take up and how much room you’ll have leftover for packing material. Plus, you want to select a box you won’t overload making it too heavy for the average person to carry.

The Weight of the Item

When selecting a box take into account the weight of the item that will go inside it. If you’re packing something that is fairly heavy such as a kitchen mixer you want a sturdy box that will support the weight of the item. A lighter item such as a vase or a lamp doesn’t require such a sturdy box. The sturdiness of a box makes all the difference.

Lastly, selecting an appropriate box can keep your valuables safe and secure as they travel from one place to the next.
