Watching a solar eclipse is a major event and one that is very exciting for most of us to see. However, while we may devote lots of time to choosing the best spot to view an eclipse, with food and drink requirements covered, some of us may not be worried about using glasses for solar eclipse occasions.
That would be a huge mistake, however. Indeed, the sun can damage your eyes in three ways. To view the event safely, special glasses will be required.
Sunglasses Are Not Good Enough
Sunglasses seem to block out plenty of brightness whenever the sun is shining. You might think a partial or total eclipse would mean less sunlight and therefore would be less dangerous for your eyes.
Not so. Glasses for solar eclipse events are designed to be many thousands of times darker than sunglasses. Since you will be viewing the sun directly, you need special glasses designed to block out all harmful rays from the sun. If you relied on normal glasses, various parts of your eyes would be opened to the risk of damage. This could be temporary or permanent.
Specialist Glasses for Solar Eclipse Events Are Designed for Safety
It is possible to purchase glasses where the filters are held inside cardboard frames. Other types of glasses may be made from sturdier plastic. However, in each case, the filters through which you will view an eclipse will provide ample coverage to allow for safe viewing. Those filters should always be undamaged – if you spot some damage, whether it is a scratch or a tear in the filter, you should always discard them and purchase another pair. This will ensure you always stay as safe as you can and protect your vision while watching this amazing solar event.
