Vinyl Flooring has been around since the 1930’s, but only began to gain popularity in the 1950’s due to its durability, versatility, water resistance, and low cost. It remains popular in contemporary times for the same reasons.

When installed correctly, vinyl is almost completely impervious to water. This makes it extremely convenient for high moisture applications such as use in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and mud rooms. Some homeowners prefer its use in other areas of the home as well, as its advantages do not stop at repelling water.

It is also resistant to stains and spills due to a clear top layer that acts as a very effective barrier against penetration by any liquids. It is important to note, however, that only sheet and printed vinyl tiles are made with this protective barrier. Composite tiles and solid Vinyl Flooring are more susceptible to staining, leading to slightly more regular maintenance, such as stripping and polishing.

Because it can be easily imprinted with different designs and in different colors, vinyl can be made to fit almost any home design. Popular patterns recreate the appearance of other flooring materials such as hardwood, stone, or just about anything else at a much lower cost. It can be installed for as little as $0.50 per square foot, although the cost depends on the quality of tile and desired design.

Maintenance for most vinyl floors is incredibly easy. They must be swept occasionally to remove dirt and debris and wet mopped, and often this is all that is required. In the case of tiles lacking the protective barrier, approved cleaners can be used to remove stains without much difficulty as well.

In comparison to hardwood floors, vinyl tiles are very easy to install, although the sub-floor should be prepared professionally to ensure that it is dry and completely level. Some homeowners opt to complete this work themselves in order to save even more money on flooring installation.

With all of its advantages, it’s easy to see why vinyl has remained a popular choice among homeowners for decades. Are you interested in purchasing vinyl tiles but not sure where to go? Visit  to find a local provider of this and other home flooring options.
