For heavy, bulky or large items the use of Z clips or panel clips is highly recommended. Panel-clips interlock on the back of an item and the wall, creating a durable, strong and effective way to attach items.
For anything from large mirrors to artwork, these clips are simple and effective to use. Anyone can put Z clips on any items to create a secure, lasting way to hang items from the wall or to secure furniture to a wall. Dressers or other large furniture items can easily be attached to any interior or exterior wall, limiting the risk of tipping over.
However, despite being very easy to use, there are some common mistakes people make when using panel-clips. Just a quick check before attaching the panel clips will eliminate these issues and allow you to get the job done right.
Clips Too Small
The length of the panel-clips has to be considered based on the weight of the item. The heavier the item, the longer the interlocking panel clip should be to evenly distribute the weight across a bigger surface area.
For large items or heavy items such as mirrors, artwork and furniture use the longest length of Z-clip possible. This can extend along the entire pack of the object and match with the length of the interlocking clip on the wall.
Mount into Studs
The panel-clips can come with pre-drilled holes to mount to the wall and the object. For the wall mount of the Z-clip be sure to match the pre-drilled or self-drilled holes with the studs in the wall.
This will provide the strongest and most secure anchor for the clip. It will also prevent any pulling of the clip from the wall over time. Just checking and aligning the fasteners into the wall will correct this common mistake.
Object Side Locks Over Wall Mount
It is important to have the object side of the Z clip lift up and over the Z top of the wall clip. This provides the interlocking feature. With this configuration, the weight of the object actually strengthens the lock and holds it in place. Removing the object will require lifting straight up and then out.
Double check the clip on both sides is in the correct position before attaching it to the wall or the back of the item. This prevents having to take the clip down and re-attach if it is not correctly positioned.
