The plumbing systems in any building can be very complex. Most of them start with a single cold water supply and an outlet for the sewage. From there, the Plumbing Contractor will separate the cold water by splicing a ‘T’ connection in the line. This allows filling a water heater and running the pipes closely together. This actually simplifies the plumbing process although it can make repairs a little harder.
Perhaps the most common reasons for hiring a Plumbing Contractor are a leak or a clog. Leaks can occur in both the freshwater system and the sewage line. The latter concern can be a real problem because a flushed toilet needs somewhere to deposit the waste. If the line is clogged, then the sewage will attempt to exit through the closest drain to the sewer line. Normally, this is a tub or shower, but homes with only a small bath on the main floor could have worse problems because the sewage could clog many of the drain lines.
Leaks are always a challenge, and this is partly due to the fact that any visible water may have come from somewhere else. Water is insidious and tends to find the easiest way to move around any obstacles. This leaves large portions of the structure vulnerable as the water slowly corrodes or rots things away. Luckily, an experienced plumber can often discover the fault because they know how the pipes work. They understand that freshwater systems are always under pressure as long as the supply is available. They also know that locating some leaks requires a bit of sleuthing.
One way to avoid clogs is to have the system cleaned occasionally. That is, have an expert use a jetting system to scour the inside of the main sewer lines. This is often necessary when the system ages because solid waste can build up on the inside of the pipe. Pressure jetting them removes the problem. It can also make it much easier to see the inside of the pipe and check for damages. This process is handled by a video snake. This is a long flexible cable system with a video camera attached.
