Precision machining is exactly how it sounds: precise. The process is used to create products with exact angles, parts and pieces. Sometimes an entire object is precision machined and sometimes the need is only for specific precision machined parts.

There is an entire industry devoted solely to precision machining. Some companies cater to particular trades while others will manufacture seemingly anything and everything. The key to precision machining is quality. Because each step of the manufacturing process requires exactness, only companies providing quality throughout its development will be able to produce the best product.

The Need for Precision Machining
Sometimes, this process is used for repairs or replacements as well. If large item breaks, precision machined parts could be needed to fix it. In some cases, precision machining is used just to calibrate a tool or to weld an intricate piece together. Everything from automobiles to workshop devices requires at least some precision machining. There are few material limitations with precisions machining. Everything from glass to metals to plastics is used in the process.

The Machining Process
Before a company begins to precision machine anything, an engineer typically reviews the Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings to familiarize him or herself with the requirements of the project. These drawings show every intricate detail of the device to be machined. How closely a company follows the blueprint outlined by these drawings determines the quality and accuracy of the final product. This is where preciseness matters. The CAD drawing is carefully followed through each step of the precision machining process to create the perfect precision machined part.

Product Inventory

The type of machining required (milling, grinding, drilling, etc.), and the need for that particular item, determine how many are run at a time. Some of the more intricate items that are specialized for a specific purpose may need to be done individually and with great attention to detail. Others require the machines but not as much individual attention so demand may call for a great deal every time the item is run.
