The air quality can have a significant impact on compressed air dryer. Air carries many contaminants which if allowed enter into the system can cause low productivity, inefficiency of the system, and compromised process or product quality. Some of these contaminants include microbes, metal oxides, scale, water, dirt particles among others. If hard particles find their way into the compressed air system, they assault equipment and piping. The result is damage to the Air Dryers in PA and generation of more particles.

Hard particles in a compressed air system can:

• Erode system components

• Damage finished products

• Wear out seals

• Plug orifices

• Decrease air tool efficiency

To ensure that contaminants don’t get into the compressed air system, choosing the appropriate air dryer and compressed air filters is important. Typical Air Dryers in PA have 6 types of air filters, and they are:

Compressor intake filter

These types of filters help in reducing the particulate contaminants in the air entering the compressed air system. Allowing the air to enter the system unfiltered can greatly reduce the life of your equipment.

Coalescing filter

Its main function is to remove oil aerosols and water from the air stream by coalescing them into droplets. Note that a coalescing filter is not good at removing vapors.

Particulate filter

Its function is to remove metal oxides, desiccant scale and particles.

High particulate filter

This is located right after the desiccant dryer to capture any fine particle. This filter should be replaced once it gets soiled to ensure efficiency in the removal of fine particles.

Charcoal or vapor filter

It removes vapors and organics from the air streams. Organics like odors and tastes could destroy product batches worth millions of dollars in the industry if not removed completely. Therefore depending on the air usage, vapor filter should be replaced after a couple of months to ensure that the air getting into contact with the product is not contaminated.

Filtering and drying the air remove particles, microbes, moisture as well as chemicals from the compressed air. Air that is clean and dry increases the lifespan of your equipment. Clean, dry air also reduces maintenance costs as well as increasing finished product yields. Air Center Inc. will provide you with a quality air dryer and ensure that it is well maintained.
